Expand
your definition of beauty
There
is more to beauty than the images that show up in the
pages of Vogue and Glamour--a lot more! Beauty is a
matter of individual perception, as in "Beauty is in
the eye of the beholder." Our aesthetic can be trained
to appreciate beauty beyond the narrow range that is
pushed on us by fashion magazines, TV, and billboards.
Remember, it wasn't so long ago that African American
beauty was unappreciated in our culture. Because African
Americans in the 1960s and '70s made a conscious effort
to reclaim their culture and their definition of beauty,
our cultural definition of what is beautiful has broadened
to include "Black is beautiful!" The same can be done
for women of size. Reclaim your right to be a big and
beautiful woman.
Affirmation
I am a big, beautiful woman.
Size-wise
Action
When you notice a big, beautiful woman, compliment her
on her appearance. Hold her in your memory as a mirror
to your own beauty. Begin to train your aesthetics to
include images of big women as beautiful. Add yourself
to the big-and-beautiful category of women.
